The Esports Racing League just wrapped up another season. New and established sim racing teams competed on multiple different platforms to determine who is the quickest overall. For the second season in a row, we’ve been honored to be selected to host the finals.
For The Last Garage this was the first time the Racing Simulation Engine was used over the internet. Previous races were always on-site in a Local Area Network (LAN) on hardware we controlled. This time, all the teams were competing from home, with their own equipment.
At the same time we wanted to create a new and unique format for the races, whilst holding on to some of the elements that worked so well in previous competitions. That meant we limited the practice time for all competitors by using a race track that was only open at certain times. While the track was closed, all people could do is drive around the paddock area to setup their cars and rig configuration.
With four teams competing for the win, we settled on a track with four lanes where the cars could start side by side. The layout of the track then looped round in a way where each lane ended up in the adjacent lane to start the next lap, and the final lane going into a tunnel to re-emerge on the other side of the lanes. This way all competitors would end up driving four laps and ending up in the same place they started, driving exactly the same distance and corners.
The whole event was broadcast live, and if you missed it, you can still watch it here. A big thank you to the teams and everyone involved in the organization. We are already looking forward to the next one at Sim Formula Europe 2027!
